Overview

Simon Mendelson is the primary antagonist of UKMC Volume I. He is a well-known, gifted physicist and biologist who became the director of the Pupatorian Gene Research Institute of early Miotia-Candor.

An apolitical individual who desires knowledge and to advance science regardless of the consequences. He moves on the premise that if reality permits it, it can be done. Simon has high expectations for mankind’s potential as a collective, but not for individuals. He sees people more as experimental subjects than equals.

During the 2019 civil war, Führer Haru Shinozaki confronted Simon Mendelson to stop his attempt to activate the sonic weapon known as “Harmony”. He was killed in a gunfight with Haru Shinozaki when Harmony collapsed on itself and fell into the underground ruins of Miotstation City.

Appearance

Simon has a tall, slender figure. He is always seen with a lab coat regardless of the situation. In formal situations, he would wear a pink shirt with a suit. He has light brown hair and eyes. Simon has a short, slicked-back hairstyle. He also wears steel oval glasses that have UV protection, resulting in slightly pinkish lenses.

Personality

Simon Mendelson is an ambitious sociopath who believes his work is all for the good of humanity. He is highly manipulative and will dispose of those who are of no use to him. This include unquestioning the central government providing captured undesired Omikanyan population for him to run his experiments. However, Simon doesn’t discriminate against any ethnicity or culture when he conducts those cruel experiments on minority. He genuinely remembers every single name of his subjects, whether dead or alive. As he puts it, there will be no progress if one does not remember their past mistakes. He does not see any wrong in his doing, and he can start casual conversations with his test subjects one sidely. 

Simon Mendelson only ever shows empathy and understands his own shortcomings as a father. To ensure his daughter Fuyuki Mashiro grows up in a proper environment, he chose to divorce his wife Sayaka Mashiro. 

Upon hearing the news of the terrorist attack at his daughter’s concert. He would later save Fuyuki Mashiro from her fatal wounds with a prototype M-factor drug he developed. Whether this is out of genuine empathy or part of his own plan to further his own ambitions is not known.

However, Simon did reject Professor Endrick Heller’s philosophical idea that androids and children are similar due to their lack of social norms. And suggesting that they are playing with dolls by creating an AHI, something so human. Simon simply replied, “Children are not dolls.”

Story

Early Life

Born in an Italian-Canadian refugee household in 1964, Miotia. Mendelson household is indifferent to politics and believes that with progress, society would become better. This ideal is further reinforced by Rikura’s declaration of independence from the traditional Miotia and Candor. Due to being from a poor household, he learned of the unfairness of the world from an early age and pressure the path of self-imposed meritocratic ideals. He exceeded every school's expectation; some today would still call him the genius child of the 20th century.

Simon Mendelson enrolled in the Imperial Academy of Science and Technology in 1982 at the age of 18. During his second year, he and his research group gained the help of a mysterious investor named Kaguya Fushimi and discovered the ancient city of Chaodis, as well as the girl dreaming in the crystal under the capital. During this expedition, he also discovered M-factor within the crystal sample. Further experimentation on M-factor has led to the birth of Miraculum cancer cells that replicate faster than anything in the natural world, despite their low metabolism. 

Under the leadership of Fuhrer Fioerhama, large-scale scientific scholarships were handed out. In 1984, his exceptional academic achievements and his manipulative charmisa in the would allow him to get funding to found a government-sponsored biomedical research facility, the Pupatorian Gene Research Institute, or PGRI for short. Simon did not question how the state provided him with live humans to experiment on; he was only grateful to the state as well as to his “volunteers” to further his self-claimed science advancements.

In the same year, the Naval Household of Inaban provided the DNA of their newborn child Fuyu Inaban to the PGRI to create the first design child in Pupatory’s history. This design child, who is a clone of Fuyu Inaban, would later be known as Haru Shinozaki.

Marriage and Downfall

Simon’s breakthroughs in medical and mechanical designs with the assistance from M-factor research earned him further funding and fame. In an attempt to control him, the state had secretly pushed for young actress Sayaka Mashiro to marry Simon. 

They had a daughter named Fuyuki Mendelson in 1989. However, the same year, the housing market bubble burst, leading to economic collapse, which resulted in mass dissatisfaction with the Imperial government. It was also when his unethical works began to surface, controversy after controversy. Simon divorced Sayaka only a year after Fuyuki’s birth. Fuyuki Mendelson’s name was changed to Fuyuki Mashiro (Character).

Simon Mendelson would continue to lead the PGRI and work for the Imperial Academy of Science and Technology. The unification of Miotia-Candor in 1997 had allowed him to receive additional funding from the Candorian side in pursuit of space warfare.

Transhumanist Compromise

The M-factor enchanted human program began in 1999. Haru Shinozaki survived the trials but suffered side effects. This resulted in Haru Shinozaki going to the PGRI clinic with Fuyu Inaban afterschool one a month. It was around this time Fuyu Inaban first met Simon Mendelson and grew disgusted with him.

The experiments did not go well in the PGRI orphanage in the same year, resulting in widespread bioorganic contamination and death. Simon managed to save Haru Shinozaki, his masterpiece, in time during the evacuation.

Upon seeing the disaster in the orphanage, the Miotia-Candorian government demanded a change of plan to cybernetics instead of biological enchantment. Due to the fear of losing humanity in the process of transhumanism, Simon proposed the idea of synthetic humans. This proposal resonated with the Imperial Senate, who shared the same philosophical paranoia and didn’t want to end up in the direction of the Meridian Commonwealth. Simon had perfected the synthetic human hardware; it was theoretically capable of most human biological capabilities. However, the software would take another couple of years.

It was around this time that Simon Mendelson was introduced to Marcus Reinhold, an aerospace engineer, who would later develop the monster aircraft of the United Kingdom of Miotia-Candor. Marcus Reinhold would be introduced to Haru Shinozaki by Simon Mendelson as his masterpiece.

In 3rd, Dec, 1997, due to Simon and Marcus’s conversation, young Itashikir an employed Omikanyan, was able to desert from his forced guard duty and escape the PGRI headquarters. During his escape, he met another of his ethnicity, a girl named Opere, the two escaped together. Itashikir vowed revenge toward Simon Mendelson.

Celestial V Incident

In 2008, Itashikir would resurface as a terrorist and bomb the stadium of the Imperial Ar Harvestashiva University as well as the Mashiro estate. This resulted in the death of Sayaka Mashiro, and a fatally wounded Fuyuki Mashiro.

Simon rushed to the hospital Fuyuki Mashiro was in and illegally injected her with a prototype regenerative drug he developed with M-factor research. While he may have intended to save Fuyuki Mashiro secretly, this was unfortunately witnessed by Mashiro’s friend Kana Ichibana.

This terrorist attack would bring unrest in Miotia-Candor, ending up with Higges A. Hasis rise to the seat of Fuhrer, promising to create a safer United Kingdom under militarism.

From the DNA of Fuyu Inaban, a No.2 design child was created under the name Tatiana. Tatiana would be the first and only super soldier that has the capability to heal at Miraculum cancer cell rates. She would become the centerpiece of the UKMC saga years later.

The Princess Conspiracy

In 2009, Hasis rewrote the constitution and removed the position of Chancellor; it was during this time that Fuhrer Chancellor was first used to translate his title in English. As dictator, Hasis allocated a large sum of money to the PGRI and Nynistry zoz Tellae, or NZT to materialize Marcus Reinhold and Airforce Hirosei House's aerial ambitions.

They were told the invasion of Kjanu was set in 2011 to reclaim ancient Pupatorian land. Simon was told to repurpose the synthetic human bodies for war, as well as to speed up the development process. With no time to spare, Simon developed a memory-extraction imagery learning AI and attempted to clone the memory preset to the AHI he developed to awaken the synthetic humans. However, this would all fail due to mismatches in AHI’s personality calibration between Data, Moral, and Instinct. While there was one promising candidate, the girl dreaming in the crystal, all parameters were green, it never managed to wake up.

During the eve of the war in 2011, when Simon was summoned to the Imperial Palace, he accidentally walked into the room where young Princess Eudokia, who had just returned from SSY military bootcamp, assisted Kaguya Fushimi in the assassination of the Emperor. Simon immediately pulled out his pistol, but he was immediately disarmed by Kaguya using shurikens. Kaguya found Simon interesting and decided to not kill him. Eudokia hid behind Kaguya while they were having the conversation. Simon was also fascinated by this unexpected development; the two challenged each other for the future of Pupatory before Kaguya took Eudokia and disappeared. It was the first time Simon came in contact with the occult, or he believes.

The Final Years

Simon supported Haru Shinozaki’s rise to Fuhrer Chancellor in 2016, having convinced themselves he had full control over her like a puppet. However, he did not know that Marcus had grown attached to Haru Shinozaki over the years, and he was secretly teaching her to be independent from Simon and the PGRI. 

Being too focused on research, he did not bother what policy Haru Shinozaki would make as long as he got the funding. Fuhrer Chancellor Haru Shinozaki would continue to move the country toward liberalism for the next 3 years.

In 2019, when the great socialist revolutions from Wasari had finally reached the United Kingdom of Miotia-Candor it resulted in a civil war. Simon realized the Old Imperial Navy faction must’ve been backed by foreign democracies such as Frontera and Rikura, it was Kaguya and Eudokia’s doing. For the first time, knowing that he may be prosecuted for crimes against humanity, he provided the Hinomoto socialist faction with advanced medical supplies and experimental weapons to draw out the war longer. So that he could complete calibrating the superweapon called “Harmony” located at the heart of Edokyuuria, Senate Terminal. The weapon to him was a wonder of the world; it was a sonic device capable of mass seizure induction. It would effectively destroy any fighting force within the Pupatorian region to buy time to set up a new authoritarian regime that suited him.

His plan was foiled when he learned that Marcus Reinhold had told Haru Shinozaki about the superweapon before he died. Haru Shinozaki would then fight Simon Mendelson in the control room of “Harmony”, also the heart of the Senate terminal. Haru Shinozaki barely survived in the coolant pool; she pushed the injured Simon Mendelson into a pool of liquid nitrogen as the Senate Terminal collapsed into the underground city of Miotstation.
