Dissopoloforia (Landmass)

Dissopoloforia is one of the seven continents on the planet of Utopia; it is the westernmost continent and the largest by landmass, with a population over two billion. The continent’s size has led itself to a large number of various human settlements which developed independently of one another, giving rise to various regional identities which have also been intertwined with influences from their northern and western neighbours. The continent is divided politically into twelve sovereign states, along with three overseas territories of countries outside of the continent. The middle of the continent is dominated by the Auvergne desert, a hostile environment which has impeded human settlement. This obstacle has led to two broad inhabited regions: the Agife Basin in the south covered in fertile wetlands and forests; and the Highsteppe in the north dominated by grassland plains broken up by intermittent highlands and mountains. These two areas developed largely separately from one another, leading to two distinct broad identities on either side of the desert. Historically various powers were able to dominate and rule over their neighbours, however today the two halves of the continent have ended up fractured with various regional powers vying for influence. In the south, Praefectus’ previously hegemonic position was broken by a coalition of their former subjects, leading to an uneasy peace between the four regional powers; meanwhile the twin giants of Electrica and Astana-Anders compete for supremacy in the north.
